High Line Signage by Pentagram New-York

This story first ran in French here | Version française ici

The High Line signage program was designed by Pentagram. The complete program includes identification, interpretation and directional elements, as well as site maps and a founders and donors recognition program.

The signage elements are perfectly integrated to Diller Scofidio + Renfro and James Corner Field Operations’ work, which transformed the old rail system. Cast and engraved steel plates were installed on existing elements while the streets over which the High Line passes are identified on handrails. Thanks to a photoluminescent filter applied over lettering, information can be read even after nightfall.

Pentagram also designed the Friends of the High Line’s graphic identity, which later became the image of the park itself.

The project won an Honor Award aux 2012 SEGD Global Design Awards.
